Snow Report - Austria : 8th January
Austria Ski Resort Snow Conditions
The New Year crowds have gone home, Austria’s public holiday on Monday is behind us and, for those lucky enough to be in the Alps this week, conditions are excellent!
Fresh snow fell over the Kitzbuheler Alps region at the weekend and we are now in the middle of a high pressure which is bringing cold, sunny and settled weather for at least another week.
Piste conditions across the board are excellent and some more snow off-piste would be welcome however, it is only early January and there will be plenty more snow to come this Winter!
Around our Resorts
SKI CIRCUS SAALBACH-HINTERGLEMM-FIEBERBRUNN-LEOGANG (40 cm lower, 120 cm upper slopes)
Fresh snow (around 25cm ) fell at the weekend in this snow corner of Austria refreshing pistes and the off-piste. All 70 lifts are open today and runs to valley level are open with good cover. Sunny and settled conditions for the week ahead.
KITZBUEHEL (52 cm lower, 81 cm upper)
Most lifts (56/58) are open in Kitzbuhel today and the fresh snow of a few days ago has refreshed the pistes with runs to resort level open albeit mostly on man-made snow lower down. With most of Kitzbuhel’s skiing in the 1200-2000 metre range, you can expect excellent cover around the resort with sunny and cold conditions expected for the next week (perfect for the Hahnenkamm Race prep!).
STUBAI (40 cm lower, 330 cm upper)
Stubai currently has a large base on its upper slopes and runs to car park level are open with 23/26 lifts open today. Sunny and cold conditions for the week ahead.
SOLDEN (97 cm lower, 311 cm upper)
No fresh snow since our last report (3rd Jan) however, excellent conditions on piste and sunny, cold weather ahead. 29/31 lifts are open today.
ST ANTON (60cm lower, 150cm upper)
St Anton has now got a well-established snow pack with all lifts and runs open to resort level. Off-piste is well-tracked and a top up of fresh snow would be welcome however, it looks very settled for the week ahead with mostly sunny and cold conditions.
ZELL am SEE – KAPRUN (30cm lower, 140 cm upper)
All lifts (28/28) are open in Zell am See today with the piste and lift connection to Saalbach also open. Runs to resort level are open although some more snow would be welcome here. Sunny and cool for the next week.
There is no fresh snow in the forecast for the next week across Austria as sunny, settled conditions will dominate making for great skiing on well-groomed pistes. Temperatures will remain cool and snow depths are good for this time of year yet very different from this time last year when Austria was getting dumped on (over 4 metres in 2 weeks!). For powder snow, sit and wait ….!
