NEW! Mayrhofen & Ziller Valley

Ski the Ziller Valley this coming Winter

New for Winter 19/20 is the Ziller Valley which boasts over 500 kilometres of piste from Fugen at the top of the valley all the way to the glacier at Hintertux. With a short transfer from Innsbruck and a long, snowy season, this is a great choice for those looking for large and varied ski areas.

The most popular resort in the Ziller Valley is Mayrhofen – well known for its skiing and après-ski – definitely one of the more lively resorts in Austria. We visited in July and the new Penkenbahn and Ahornbahn lifts from Mayrhofen centre are super-quick with an impressive uphill capacity.

If you are keen to explore the skiing outside of Mayrhofen, then the Zillertal Arena stretching from Zell am Ziller to Gerlos actually offers more mileage then Mayrhofen and the Hochzillertal Ski Area (Kaltenbach-Hochfugen) is also worth checking out. The whole valley is connected with a free ski bus service. For great snow early and late season, the glacier at Hintertux is well worth the trek to the end of the valley.

Whilst the valley floor is relatively low in altitude (around 600 metres), it is worth noting most of the skiing takes place from 1300-2500 metres and the Ziller Valley has a very good snow record backed up with extensive snow-making.
