Whats NEW? :: Winter 2016/17

The Summer is nearly over, the ski season is just over 3 months away and we are very much looking forward to this coming Winter! Here, we take a look at what’s new around the Austrian Ski Resorts this coming winter:

Not a new resort, of course, but one which is back in our programme for this coming winter. Zell am See and Kaprun offer great skiing for all abilities, snow-sure skiing and two lively resort centres with plenty going on. Add to this some great value and flexible hotels and a short transfer time from Salzburg and we think Zell am See-Kaprun is a great choice for a wide range of skiers.

Zell am See has invested heavily in snow-making and new lifts over recent years and the NEW ZellamSeeXpress (opening December 2016 to the mid-station) is the first phase of the lift connection with the Ski Circus Saalbach-Hinterglemm-Fieberbrunn (scheduled to be fully up and running by December 2018).

SKI CIRCUS - Saalbach-Hinterglemm-Fieberbrunn-Leogang

Quite a mouthful (!) and Austria’s largest lift-linked ski area last season with the link from Fieberbrunn to Saalbach proving a popular and long-awaited extension of the ski area to 270 km of piste. Fieberbrunn has added further snow-making cannons and reservoirs over the summer which means the entire area can be covered in just 72 hours (Tyrolean drinking quality water only, naturally).

In Saalbach, the NEW Schonleiten 8-seater Gondola will be fully operational by December replacing the old lift at the start of the Glemm Valley.

In Fieberbrunn, we have added the newly renovated, family-run 4* Boutique Hotel Grosslehen.

St ANTON – Ski Arlberg – Austria’s largest Ski Area!!

This is going to be the BIG news of this Winter : Opening December 2016 is the NEW Flexenbahn lift connecting Stuben and Zurs which means the whole of the Ski Arlberg region is now practically lift-linked – that’s a huge 350 kilometres of piste. And, they’ll keep the crown of largest Ski Area until Zell am See & the Ski Circus leapfrog them in a couple of years time!

A huge lift investment has seen the whole of the Giggijoch lift from the Solden Valley floor replaced by a faster, modern Gondola with an incredible uplift of 4,500 passengers per hour. Opening November 2016, this all NEW lift will offer skiers much quicker access to the mountain.

FLIGHT News – More flights to Austria

British Airways has added Heathrow to Innsbruck flights for this coming winter in addition to its existing flights from Heathrow to Salzburg and Gatwick to Salzburg and Innsbruck. for more details. has also launched Saturday flights to Salzburg from East Midlands Airport in addition to its weekly service to Salzburg from Edinburgh, Manchester and Leeds Bradford.
