SNOW Report : 7th February 2019

SNOW Report : 7th February

What a Winter season this is turning out to be! Record-breaking snowfall at the start of January has put down a significant base across all of Austria with upper slopes snow depths ranging from 2.5 metres to as much as 4.5 metres! This is going nowhere soon and there is plenty more snow to come too. We skied Fieberbrunn-Hinterglemm 9 days ago and enjoyed 3 full days of powder snow on top of a huge base and temperatures have remained cold since.

If you are heading to the Alps in the next few weeks (half term kicks off 16thFebruary and the Euro holidays run until 9thMarch) then, at the very, very least, you can expect some of the finest piste conditions for years. And, if you have yet to book your ski holiday this winter, you can now be 100% confident of full cover to April and beyond!

ACROSS OUR RESORTS

FIEBERBRUNN  - SKI CIRCUS SAALBACH-HINTERGLEMM-FIEBERBRUNN (110 cm lower slopes, 260 cm upper)

69/70 Lifts are open today with amazing skiing under mostly sunny skies. All 270 kilometres of piste are open as are all links between Saalbach, Hinterglemm, Fieberbrunn and Leogang. Settled, sunny weather until the weekend then a foot of fresh Sunday in to Monday. Conditions will remain fantastic well in to April – Shame it all closes early on the 31stMarch regardless of snow cover!

KITZBUHEL     (99 cm lower slopes, 150 cm upper slopes)

Kitzbuhel has all of its lifts and runs open today with excellent conditions on and off-piste. Runs to resort level are open and in great condition and the Streif has returned to its normal piste status following the recent Hahnenkamm Downhill race. A substantial base now to last to the end of the season.

STUBAI  (80 cm lower, 450 cm upper)

Austria’s largest glacier Resort has a huge 4 metres+ of snow at the top (they have just recently dug out the viewing platform) and there will be great conditions here until late May/ June. A few sunny days ahead, snow at the weekend and some VERY cold temperatures arriving middle of next week.

SOLDEN  (110 cm, 423 cm)

Another resort with a 4 metres+ base at the top (3,000m+) and 29/31 lifts are open today with great skiing under mostly sunny skies. This base will last well past Easter.

ST ANTON   (90 cm, 340 cm)

All the lifts (88/88) are open in the Ski Arlberg region today and there is superb cover all over the resort with powder still to be had off-piste (may require a bit of a trek or some local knowledge). Some sunny days ahead and a top up of fresh snow at the start of next week.

FORECAST

The last week has seen settled high pressure weather across the Austrian Alps with temperatures around average for this time of year and there are another couple of sunny days in the forecast to take us through to Sunday. Stronger winds from the North will then bring cooler, moist air to the Austrian Alps and around 30-40 cm of fresh snow (at 2,000m) is expected Monday and Tuesday next week. Temperatures then look set to fall further (minus teens at altitude) which will keep the powder dry and base solid as we hit the middle of February.
