What’s NEW? : Winter 2018/19
The Summer holiday season is behind us, the ski season is less than 3 months away and we are very much looking forward to this coming Winter! The summer months see a great deal of change and investment in the Alps with more lifts and Hotels being built and here are just a few highlights to look forward to this Winter.
No new lifts this year however, there has been significant investment in snow-making with the building of a new, larger reservoir at the Streuboeden middle station. This will up the snow-making capacity allowing Fieberbrunn to create superb top-to-bottom pistes in even the leanest of winters.
The 4* Vaya Resort opens December 2018 offering rooms and chalets close to the lift station and there are two more 4* Hotels in the pipeline for the future.
Two new lifts open in Kitzbuhel this Winter both upgrade replacements on the Kitzbuheler Horn : The Raintal chair is replaced with a new Gondola and a new high-speed 6-seater chair replaces the Brunelle lift.
Never one to rest on its laurels, Saalbach is continually investing in its lift infrastructure. Winter 18/19 sees the replacement of the old Kohlmaisbahn with an all-new high speed Gondola from the resort centre.
A recent addition to our programme, the 4*S Hotel Kendler is a top-class Hotel in the resort centre with a great location and fantastic wellness facilities.
ZELL am SEE-KAPRUN
The all new AreitXpress lift replaced the old Areitbahn last December on the outskirts of Zell which increased the uphill capacity significantly from this side of the ski area. We are still waiting to see when the connection from the ZellamSeeXpress to Glemmtal (Saalbach) will take place – watch this space!
Over in Kaprun, a huge project is underway with the first phase of the project to connect the village of Kaprun with the Glacier by lift due for completion December 2018. The new lift (K-onnection) phase one is a 2-stage Gondola (MK – Maiskogelbahn) from the resort centre to the top of the local mountain, Maiskogel. Phase 2 (3K, opening December 2019) will see a connection from the top of Maiskogel across to the Glacier and the entire new lift system will cover a whopping 12 kilometres in total. This will give guests the option to walk from the resort centre and travel to the glacier by lift or hop on the ski bus to the Gletscherjet (6 km). Kaprun Ski season starts October 2018.
The FIS World Cup Ski Opening takes place on the glacier above Solden 26-28th October 2018 and marks the start of the Alpine Race season. In addition to the local Solden Ski pass, an extended Oetztal Super Ski Pass now includes the neighbouring resort of Obergurgl for extra kilometres and away days.
Fans of James Bond will love the new 007 Elements Cinematic Experience located at 3048 metres at the top of the Gaislachkogl. Opened Summer 2018, the installation focuses on ‘Spectre’, shot in Solden, but also showcases the other titles in the 24-film series.
